KCGF and BPB Sign Agreement for the New "Green Deposit" Instrument

Pristina,June 10,2026 – The Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund (KCGF) and BPB signed today a cooperation agreement for the implementation of the new financial instrument "Green Deposit," an innovative initiative aimed at supporting the financing of sustainable investments and accelerating the transition towards a green economy in Kosovo.

Through this instrument, KCGF places dedicated deposits in the Bank for Business (BPB), which will be used exclusively to finance projects and investments that contribute to environmental protection, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other activities defined as green investments. We are pleased to emphasize that this initiative is also supported by the "Green Transformation of Private Enterprises in Kosovo" (GPEK) project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-funded by Sweden, and implemented by Helvetas. In line with the project's mission to support Kosovar enterprises in adopting sustainable and competitive business practices, the "Green Deposit" instrument promotes green investments, increases resource efficiency, strengthens business competitiveness, and contributes to advancing the transition toward a more sustainable and greener economy.

The signing of the agreement with BPB marks a step forward in creating a direct link between financial resources and positive environmental impact. The instrument aims to increase access to finance for green investments, strengthen the green finance ecosystem in Kosovo, and encourage financial institutions to further integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their activities.

With this initiative, KCGF expands the range of instruments it offers to the financial sector and businesses, complementing existing guarantee schemes with a new mechanism that promotes investments with positive economic and environmental impacts.

During the signing ceremony, representatives of KCGF and BPB emphasized the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in creating new financial opportunities for businesses and in supporting the country's sustainable development objectives.

The "Green Deposit" is designed to provide a transparent and reliable mechanism for financing green investments, ensuring that dedicated funds are used only for activities that meet defined sustainability criteria and contributing to the avoidance of greenwashing practices.

Through this instrument, KCGF and BPB aim to create a successful model that can serve as an example for the further expansion of green finance in Kosovo and contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient economy against environmental challenges.

Statement of the Managing Director of KCGF "The launch of the 'Green Deposit' instrument represents a significant step in our efforts to advance green finance in Kosovo. Through this agreement with BPB, we are creating a concrete mechanism that directly links financial resources to investments that generate long-term environmental and economic benefits. This initiative is also supported by the 'Green Transformation of Private Enterprises in Kosovo' (GPEK) project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-funded by Sweden, and implemented by Helvetas, which promotes green investments and the adoption of sustainable practices by Kosovar businesses.

At the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, we believe that the transition towards a more sustainable economy requires not only willingness but also innovative financial instruments that enable the private sector to invest in greener technologies and practices. The 'Green Deposit' is precisely such an instrument, which not only supports sustainable investments but also strengthens the role of the financial sector in addressing climate and environmental challenges.

We are pleased that BPB is the first partner bank in the pilot phase of this instrument and believe that this cooperation will serve as a successful model for the further expansion of green finance in Kosovo. Together we are building a financial ecosystem that is more sustainable, innovative, and oriented towards the long-term development of the country."

Statement of the Chief Executive Officer of BPB "At BPB, we believe that the transition towards a greener economy cannot be supported by green lending alone. To create a sustainable impact, it is equally important to engage savers and give them the opportunity to directly contribute to financing investments that protect the environment and create long-term value for society. With exactly this vision, BPB launched the Green Savings Account, the first product of its kind in Kosovo, expanding the concept of green finance beyond borrowing and raising citizens' awareness of the importance of saving oriented towards sustainable investments. Through this product, every saver has the opportunity to become an active part of the green transition and contribute to building a more sustainable economy for future generations.

Today we are particularly happy that we are materializing this vision through the first Green Term Deposit, realized together with the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, an important partner in the development of Kosovo's financial ecosystem. This agreement represents more than just a financial instrument – it proves that when institutions join forces around a common goal, they can create real economic and environmental impact.

This initiative is a concrete example of how the partnership between BPB, KCGF, and development partners is turning the green agenda from a vision into real investments with a measurable impact on Kosovo's economy and environment."
